After an overflowing of resistance from inn administrators, the Town Board tabled a proposition to look for an assessment on visitors.

The town had set a proposition on its motivation Thursday to look for state endorsement for a 1.5 percent charge on lodging and motel bills. That assessment would have been on top of a 6 percent expense charged by Albany County.

Inn administrators censured the proposition as a risk to their capacity to contend.

"I don't know why this is all of a sudden an issue, trying to raise the inhabitance charge, putting us off guard with our opposition," said Todd Reichelt, general chief of the Albany Marriott on Wolf Road.

Sway Greene, general administrator of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Latham, said the business is quickly evolving.

"We now need to rival Airbnb, which pays no inhabitance charge," he said. Airbnb joins individuals needing to stay in a group with mortgage holders willing to house them for a charge.

Neighboring Rensselaer County charges a 3 percent bed charge, he said. Troy Mayor Patrick Madden talked about looking for an extra charge for the city in his State of the City address, and Clifton Park has looked for endorsement to execute an expense.
